Reading Non-Fiction for the Main Idea: Lesson 2

This is Lesson 2 in a three-part series of Google Slide lessons on reading for the main idea in nonfiction texts. This second lesson will teach students how to use pictures, captions, headings, and other graphics in nonfiction passages or books to find the main idea. Once the students read the title, look at the pictures, and think about describing what they see and visualize, they will be able to tell what the book or passage is about. The relationship of the title, pictures, headings, and captions in the text leads to the main idea and supports student(s) understanding of the main idea.
